The thing came abruptly and unannounced; a demon, ratlike scurrying from pits remote and unimaginable...
- The Lurking Fear

Lovecrafts creatures; the degenerated humanity he describes, have all kinds of potential for visualization.
This done with Tayasui Sketches Pro.

I am only illustrating a fragment. Or designing a character form. But the thought process can get pretty involved even in passing.
Would a creature devolved from upright humans, that now burrows in the earth - resembling a mole - actually resemble a mole?
Would it cut thru the earth with a body that is thinned horizontally? Flattened to the ground - like a mole. Or would it be thinned vertically? Would either shape make earth burrowing easier? How would its head change? How would its nose look - and be able to breath clear? How would its legs be shaped? would they atrophy? Be directed out to the sides for better propulsion...? A million other questions could be asked about the transformation. Above all - how to make the shape and details gut tuggingly authentic? Convincing.

That - above the execution of a slick image - is what I would hope to aspire to in all my drawing. Some aspect of solidity. Something that is convincing. Imagery that draws the viewer in and allows the eye to rest in a detail - NOT run past - always looking for something - some meaning or point. Rest in a detail that recalls the character and spirit of things in the world.
